Why is a Scout Loyal?

One of the most important things that we as scouts promise to do is to be loyal but, why should a scout be loyal? The 1911 Boy Scouts of America Handbook says "A Scout is loyal. A Scout is true to his family, friends, Scout leaders, school, and nation." One thing I would like to add to that is a scout is loyal to his/her Crew and fellow Crew members. The Bible says in Proverbs 21:21 "He who pursues righteousness and loyalty Finds life, righteousness and honor." As scouts we need to actively pursue righteousness and loyalty not just say well you know I do a good turn daily so I must be a "good person". The original Boy Scout law from Lord Baden Powell states "A scout is loyal to his/her country, and to his/her officers, and his/her employers. He/She must stick to them through thick and thin against anyone who is their enemy, or who even talks badly of them." As you see here patriotism is a most important part of loyalty to your country. Another important part of loyalty is sticking with your fellow scouts and officers.1 Corinthians 16:13-14 says "Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong." As servants of the most High God we need to stand fast on His word. To pray and meditate on His word, on how we can stay loyal to others but, most importantly how to stay loyal to God. As I do many other posts I started this post with a question Why is a Scout Loyal? I believe that it is our duty not only as Scouts but as servants of God to stick by our fellow scouts through thick and thin help to pick them up when they fall. Lastly the most important part of being a loyal scout and Christian is our loyalty to God. As Scouts who are professing Christians we need to stand firm in our faith in God and His Holy Word. I hope that this made you think about how to become more loyal.
