Thoughts on Leadership

When you are a leader whether it is in a scout unit or elsewhere you have a duty to stand by the scouts that you are responsible for. When you are a leader you have authority but, you do not have the authority to belittle other scouts the Bible says in Proverbs 11:14 " where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety." As a youth leader it is not your duty to order but, it is your job to offer guidance. If you see a scout doing something he is not supposed to do then you have the duty to go over to that scout explain why what he is doing is wrong or even possibly dangerous. An adult leader on the other hand should not let their power over a young person or young people get to their head and start belittling the youths opinions or start to talk snidely or rudely to that younger scout for in 1 Timothy 4:12 it says " Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity." but, all youth members do need to be respectful to adult leaders. If you are a leader whether you are a youth or adult member of scouting you are meant to be a servant to all those who you are responsible for and to. In Mark 10:45 it says "For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” As you see even Jesus God's only Son came from Heaven and showed us the most inspiring example of all that of being a servant. We should all have a Christlike attitude when dealing with others not using snide or rude comments or belittling younger members of the scouting program but, like Christ we should walk with a servants heart and a Christlike attitude.

I hope that these thoughts make you think about how to make your walk more Christlike and how to have a servant spirit. Also I hope that this post helped to show you that the best way to lead is by following God's example that He showed us through his Son Christ Jesus.
