What Makes a Sea Scout?

Lord Baden-Powell once said “It’s the spirit within, not the veneer without, that makes a Scout.” As Scouts we are the best this generation has to offer. We are the leaders of this upcoming generation. Among us can be the future President of the United States or the future Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America but, what makes these scouts of today leaders of tomorrow? We have oaths and laws that guide us. Like the Venturing Code; As a Venturer, I believe that America's strength lies in our trust in God and in the courage, strength, and traditions of our people. I will, therefore, be faithful in my religious duties and will maintain a personal sense of honor in my own life. I will treasure my American heritage and will do all I can to preserve and enrich it. I will recognize the dignity and worth of all humanity and will use fair play and goodwill in my daily life. I will acquire the Venturing attitude that seeks truth in all things and adventure on the frontiers of our changing world. How does this help scouts to become the leaders of tomorrow you might ask? Well in the code you will see parts like I believe that America's strength lies in our trust in God and in the courage, strength, and traditions of our people. As leaders we need to know where our strength comes from of course it comes from the unity of our nation's peoples but, most of all from Almighty God. As Christian Scouts our main manual in life is the Holy Bible. In the Bible it says of leaders in Proverbs 16:7, "When a man's ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him." In that text alone we have the answer to create peace. As Christian Sea Scouts what makes us such is our duty to Almighty God. We must stand firm in the faith and not be ashamed of the Gospel. We must be the witnesses of Christ to this next generation. We are Sea Scouts, We are Christians, must be our rallying cry! We must show others the love of God and our duty to Him! I end this blog as I started it, What Makes a Sea Scout? Well in this Ship, We are Sea Scouts, We are Christians!
